Some Thoughts about this Album
“Proto-Songs” is a live-recording from a concert in december 2019. I improvise freely. As I go along, the music “is happening to me”; in my memory I have a pool of words by great poets which I have memorized over the past two years, the music tells me which words to use and suddenly a prototype of a song appears out of nowhere. I love to play like this, to simply and quietly go into the unknown open eld of sounds, rhythms, melodies and harmonies and combine them with these words, invent everything in the moment. The cello is mostly prepared with various pegs on and sticks between the strings ; thus the cello becomes a very unique “rhythm- and sound-machine”. By the way : there’s a baby in the audience who sometimes “sings” along.
